The initial design task of creating an “environment image” or “landscape” for the game looked like it would be fun. After all, designing a game seems to be somewhat of a “let’s create something fun and make it look good” type of project.
But, for someone who’s relatively new to game development, designing an environment in Photoshop can be extremely frustrating.
To get this environment going, I created an artboard, added a bunch of brushes, and just went to town creating the world for Plutonia.
We’ll be adding in our weapons, abilities, inventory, and dialogue as we create, but for now we’ll be focusing on a nice, wide, empty world to give our player some breathing room.
A “Landscape Image” or “Environment Image” can be defined as “the total area of the game” — in other words, how big is the game world?
Most of our time is going to be spent designing this “level” — that is, the world. Because we’re working in a 2D space, it’s a little easier to design the world than it would be in, say, a 3D game. We can stretch out the width of the world a bit and have more room for the art.
This image is going to be the background/landscape upon which all the characters and other elements of the game are set.
So, how do we create this world? Photoshop is a good platform for this because of its simplicity. We only have a few options.
I’ll guide you through the steps of creating a simple landscape for Plutonia.
1. Create a New Artboard
Before we begin designing, we need to make one basic setup: an artboard.
To do this, simply right-click any empty space in your image window, hold down the Command (Ctrl) key, and choose “New Artboard” from the menu. You’ll now have a new, empty artboard in your image window with some visual guides.
I’m adding one here for reference because I want to keep track of where the next important image is.
We’re going to focus on the smaller artboard.
Most of the basic workflow is going to be from here on out, but don’t forget about that new artboard in the corner!
2. Layer Styles and Layer Modes

1. Field of the Invention
The invention relates to the field of integrated circuits. More particularly, the invention relates to generation of differential clock signals for integrated circuits.

The clock signals of a chip operate in relation to ground level VSS. When chip is powered on, it is typically biased to VSS. After the chip is powered on, it is typically clocked to VDD. Major complications associated with diaphyseal forearm fractures in children.
The aim of this study is to characterize the complications associated with diaphyseal forearm fractures in children. We retrospectively reviewed the records of all pediatric patients (0-18 years) with a diagnosis of a diaphyseal forearm fracture admitted to a level I regional trauma center. Patients were divided into 3 groups based on injury pattern, specifically anatomic groups for the proximal and distal radius and ulna. Demographic data, type of injury, associated injuries, fracture stability, type of fixation, and complications were identified. A total of 163 patients were included in the study. The most common injury in the distal radius occurred to patients from 1 to 6 years of age (n = 34), whereas those from 12 to 18 years of age sustained the most common injury in the distal ulna. Periarticular injuries were present in most patients in all age groups and were most common in the distal radius group. Associated injuries were present in 63 patients. Seventy-three patients had at least one associated injury. Five patients had an open injury to the distal forearm, and 1 of those patients had an associated compartment syndrome. Forty-six patients had a concomitant humeral fracture. None of the patients had neurovascular injuries. The most common complication was a loss of fracture reduction in 31 patients (19%). Nonunion or malunion were noted in 9 patients (5.5%). Eight patients underwent operative intervention for complications. Major complications associated with pediatric diaphyseal forearm fractures in children are uncommon. Associated injuries increase the risk for complications. The most common complication was loss of fracture reduction, most often occurring in distal radius fractures. Patients with open injuries had a higher likelihood of malunion than patients with closed injuries..
