Human T cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection was determined using the anti-p19 (tax) antibody. EBV-associated LPDs was found in 5 patients (6.4%) of the CKD patients. The incidence of EBV-associated LPDs was significantly higher in the dialyzed CKD patients (13.4%) than in the predialysis (3.6%) and control subjects (0.0%) (P=0.034, respectively). The incidence of EBV-associated LPDs was similar between patients with rapidly declining renal function and those with stable function (5.5% vs. 6.9%, respectively). The rate of EBV-associated LPDs in patients with rapidly declining renal function was higher than that in the dialyzed (13.4% vs. 5.8%) and control subjects (0.0% vs. 0.0%, respectively).
