AutoCAD 2D is primarily a 2D drafting and editing application that is used to draw 2D graphics such as maps, architectural plans, blueprints, and schematics. Autodesk’s 3D CAD systems are capable of 2D and 3D design and drafting, and of creating architectural and engineering models. AutoCAD can create complete 3D models of any object, using a line or surface-based modeling system.\nSince its inception, AutoCAD has evolved over the years, becoming ever more powerful and versatile. AutoCAD 2017 is currently the latest release of AutoCAD, first released in November 2016.\nHistory\nAutoCAD debuted in December 1982 with version 1.0 on PCs. It was the first CAD program for the desktop and, as such, it replaced the original drafting packages on the desktops of large customers such as Aerospace and defense companies, automotive companies, and petroleum companies. An upgraded version, AutoCAD 1.5 (released in 1987), was the first program to use floating-point arithmetic (fractional coordinates) instead of fixed-point arithmetic.\nThe first AutoCAD program to feature true 2D drafting was AutoCAD 2D version 1.1 in December 1984.
