The Smart Filter work like a sort of inverse of the Blur Gallery filter that makes an image look natural. The Smart Filter has three different tools that let you refine and adjust an image. One of the tools looks like the one seen in Figure 3-2. You can see a reference photo at the bottom of the screen. The image that you start with, seen here on the left, is the master. As you use the tools, your chosen image appears on the right. The tools use an Artistic\/Beauty mode that gives the option for straightening and overall toning of the image.<\/p>\n<p>  You may be familiar with some of the Photoshop-based Plug-ins, which include the ability to add a special effect to an image. If you are interested in some of the Photoshop-based Plug-ins, you can find them at `www.kodak.com\/mykodak\/Products\/PlugIns\/Photoshop_PlugIns\/`.<\/p>\n<p>  In the early days of Photoshop, it used to be that you had to know the Layers system to edit an image; that is, when you used the Layers tool, you had to add a new layer first before you could do anything to that layer. This is no longer the case. Photoshop was redesigned in 2016 to enable a touch of simplicity and transparency. You see some of the changes in Figure 3-3, which shows the same working image seen in Figure 3-2. The new features were explained in the previous sidebar, &#8220;Handy shortcuts for moving and copying layers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  The new Layers workflow works really, really well. You simply open an image as usual in Photoshop and make your changes.
