The ethyl acetate extract showed a significant reduction in the number of *A*. *lucorum* spores in the hemocoel of wax moths. Although propolis has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against fungi, the ethyl acetate fraction had significantly higher activity than the other extract fractions against *A*. *lucorum* in this assay.\nThe propolis composition may be important for evaluating its antimicrobial activity \\[[@pone.0216757.ref029]\\]. Nesbitt and Williams \\[[@pone.0216757.ref029]\\] showed that the antimicrobial activity of propolis is dependent on the chemical composition. For instance, (+)-limonene and beta-caryophyllene are the main compounds of this extract, and they both have been shown to exhibit antimicrobial activity against bacteria, including the activity against *A*. *lucorum* \\[[@pone.0216757.ref030]\\].
