The results have shown that they are in an unwinnable position, but they believe that the government will secure a third term with a modest majority, perhaps as little as 30 seats, but probably with a majority of around 40.\nLabour is clearly in a much better position. All of the focus has been on the possibility that Corbyn will win a landslide victory, perhaps of 80 to 90 percent, but it is difficult to envisage that happening. The Conservatives are not united, the Labour party is organised and united, and the complacency of the Labour government in the past two years means they will be stronger than they were in 2010.\nWith this in mind, the Conservative strategy has been to ensure that Corbyn does not achieve any of his stated priorities this time. The aim has been to prevent a Labour government and allow the country to become ungovernable. Not just a narrow defeat, but a disaster, should be the fate of the Conservatives if they fail to deliver. It is quite possible that this strategy could work.\nThere is no doubt that the results of the polls will be predictable to the party in power. At least the pollsters won\u2019t be labelling the result a shock! The Conservatives are going to win, but by how much?\nThe polls so far have shown a steady, and not too high, Tory lead. There is also little or no sign of any Labour surge. The polls show a better Labour performance than in 2015, but not as strong as 2010. Corbyn\u2019s \u2018remain\u2019 vote has increased slightly. A couple of polls even showed a Conservative lead of a couple of points, but recent results have shown it to be narrowing.\nGiven that the Conservative lead is only around 3 points, and that the polls have shown a modest but substantial Labour lead, this suggests that the British people will reject a Corbyn government in 2020.
