\u201cWe\u2019ve been working hard on refining the motion-capture data \u2013 asking players to move through all the scenarios, then collecting and analysing each one,\u201d said Jake. \u201cThe players I\u2019ve worked with are superhuman athletes and I can\u2019t even imagine doing what they do, let alone measuring it.\u201d\nI sat down with Jake to discuss the development process behind the motion capture and how it will play a role in FIFA 22.\nWhat attracted you to this type of motion capture?\nI’d played some football when I was growing up and was fortunate enough to be part of a professional league when I was younger. But it\u2019s only in the last two or three years that I\u2019ve been able to go down and really figure out what I\u2019m doing.\nIf you try to make videos and you\u2019re doing positional play, you\u2019re using a lot of equipment. It costs a lot of money. You\u2019re wearing helmets and can\u2019t do certain things. It\u2019s fun to play this game and have fun with your friends, but it\u2019s not the same as doing it in real life.\nHow does it differ from the technology that you\u2019ve been using up until now?\nThe biggest difference is that the earlier games were running at 30fps, a frame per second (fps). The newest game, FIFA, is running at 90fps. We had always used lower quality camera motion capture, but with the new technology, we can actually play at a higher frame rate and you can see that in the game.\nWe\u2019ve been able to collect data like how many tackles players make and how many shots they\u2019re taking. We\u2019re getting a really good idea of how the ball moves through the air and when it gets there.\nThis technology gives us information that no one else has. We\u2019ve been able to measure the speed and acceleration of the ball and the force of the shots, and we can see things that no one has seen before.\nHaving the data collected isn\u2019t the issue. The problem is that it takes a lot of effort and you need some incredible athletes to collect it. We\u2019ve made sure that all the data is going to be really important.\nWhat the motion capture we\u2019ve done has helped us<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
