Welcome to the Memory meter. In Memory meter you will be able to see the difference in RAM usage between the various processes, programs or user accounts and from there you can decide if you should close down or wait for a process to end.
\nMemory Meter Tips & Tricks:
\nWhile you can look at the memory meter under the Processes tab as the widget is called, this doesn’t really help you all that much because this tab only shows you the total amount of RAM used by all processes, since it only counts the RAM used by your programs, you can actually end up with a usage that is considerably higher than you first thought if you have a lot of different applications running at the same time.
\nYou will however still be able to see the RAM usage of each process individually.
\nCurrently only the last 300 seconds of usage are shown, although you can change the settings at the bottom to display the whole hour. To switch to a different view, use the up and down arrows in the top right of the widget.
\nKnown Issues:
\nUnfortunately, there is no way to clear the widget’s RAM usage other than to close it.
\nSo here is a trick to remove all data that is placed into the widget by a given user or group:<\/p>\n
Delete ~\/.memmeter\/[user or group] from your home folder. This directory is created by the widget, so once you delete it, you will no longer be able to look at your usage.
\nEdit \/var\/lib\/memmeter\/widget.cfg and comment out the line that says [Group memMeter]. The widget will still work, but you can safely remove the information about the user or group from your memory meter.<\/p>\n
