The best defense is a good offense, and it seems that the best form of offense for the New Orleans Saints in 2019 is simple: Physicality.<\/p>\n

That’s what it took to beat the Atlanta Falcons in the playoffs, after all. The Saints know that a 36-point margin of victory wasn’t enough to beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Superdome in the divisional round.<\/p>\n

This would seem to also be true for the Saints’ 2019 season, as they finished last in the league in rushing offense in 2018, when they scored 181 points and compiled 169 rushing yards per game.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ defense finished last in the league in total defense and gave up 30 points to the Rams in the Superdome in the playoffs. The Rams ran the ball for 157 yards (5.5 yards per carry). The Falcons averaged 5.8 yards per carry in their upset win.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the Saints finished 31st in rushing yards. They finished 31st in rushing yards in each of the last four years.<\/p>\n
