Save often. File-saving capacity is a growing concern for many of us these days, and Photoshop continues to demand more storage than the typical computer would have. Of course, you can also store and retrieve your images in the cloud — the cloud that’s always with you.
Use the Organizer to help you find the right file. It’s located in your Windows 7 program menu. Press Windows+E, and then click Organizer to open the Organizer window. You can see whether the file is open or locked, and you can see where the file is located and what image-editing features the file has. Figure 6-9 shows the Organizer window open.

Work with layers. Layers are a way of controlling one image with another image and can be helpful when working with complex images. You can use all kinds of effects on a layer — color, contrast, adjustment layers, and shadows. Layers are a particular boon to professional designers because they enable them to create complex designs that can be modified easily.
Think of the document window as an image. The traditional Adobe Photoshop 6 file format doesn’t make that connection; it treats the document window as a workspace, and the image is a representation of that workspace. This method can sometimes be frustrating for designers, but it also creates more room in your image for creative elements. With a Photoshop document file,

We evaluated a new technique for arthrodesis of the first and second metatarsophalangeal joint for osteoarthritis. After intramedullary and extramedullary debridement, a small incision is made over the plantar surface of the talus, and the first metatarsal is osteotomized to form a pedestal. Polymethylmethacrylate is packed with an acrylic spacer at the tip of the distal segment. The second metatarsal is then tapped and drilled to form the distal segment. A K-wire is threaded from the plantar surface of the first metatarsal to the plantar surface of the talus, passing through the talus. The second metatarsal is osteotomized, and a second K-wire is inserted. After osteosynthesis, the constructs are pressure-treated for 6-8 weeks at 50 mmHg, followed by weightbearing as tolerated for an additional 6-8 weeks. The metatarsophalangeal joint was fused in all cases. All patients had successful fusion of the first and second metatarsophalangeal joints at clinical and radiographic follow-up at a mean of 34 months (range, 22-50 months).

Fire and forget (use in quick console applications)
I am looking for a way to send something to a queue from a quick console application (from a main loop, without blocking).
What I’m looking for is something that looks like this:

q.put(42)

# the task went to the queue, and now we are awaiting the result
if something_to_execute == 42:
# the result went to the queue too, I want it immediately
pass
So the results of the queued task go to the queue too.

If you want to “fire-and-forget” from a console/script, and get the results, you can do this:
from Queue import Queue
q = Queue()
q.put(42)
q.put(43)
# main loop
while True:
result = q.get()
if result == 42:
print(42)
elif result == 43:
print(43)
This will be “fire-and-forget” because, while you are running, the main loop never goes into the else part of the if statement.
If you want the results to be in a variable, you could do this:
result = q.get()
if result == 42:
print(42)
elif result == 43:
print(43)
Or, in an early version of Python3, you could just use the in keyword with the operator (==):
result = q.get()
if result in [42, 43]:
print(result)
I added the brackets to the in keyword because (as far as I know) list(x) in x isn’t a valid syntax.
If you want to have the results in a list, you could do this:
results = []
while True:
result = q.get()
if result in [42, 43]:
