The Photoshop website (www.adobe.com/photoshop) is usually up to date with the latest Photoshop versions. If your version isn’t listed there, you’ll find it on your computer’s CD or DVD.
Photoshop Elements
When I talk about Photoshop, I usually include the word “Elements,” which is the name of Adobe’s offering that’s designed to provide most of what Photoshop has to offer and can be downloaded for free from the Adobe website (www.adobe.com/elements).
In the past, Photoshop was the more complex of the two programs, with Elements being simpler, smaller, and good for beginners. But with the new “Lightroom” built into Photoshop CS5, Elements has been stripped down to make it even more simple, more powerful, and more geared toward beginners.
Photoshop CS5 is the most powerful version of Photoshop yet. It includes a new, open, flat editing interface that makes working with multiple layers much easier. Elements includes a similar interface and so most people use Elements to create images from scratch and then import them into Photoshop for further manipulation. (The good news for Elements users: They don’t need to buy Photoshop to use Photoshop Elements, either.)
Photoshop CS5 is an upgrade over CS4 and has many of the changes that we discuss in the following sections.
Building a new document
When you open Elements, you work in a document that has a photo-based interface. Like a traditional photo album, the image can be edited and saved as a new file, and you can work with other images in the same document. Elements includes a program that combines multiple images into a single photo-gallery page, making the product a good substitute for web photo albums.
After you import images into Elements, you place them into `.psd` (the Photoshop document format) files. Figure 8-3 shows a window where you can quickly add an image to a `.psd` document.

Choosing an image
You can directly download a `.psd` file for a given photo onto your computer from the Internet, or you can save a `.jpg` file of an image from a digital camera directly to your computer. You can then add that image to your Elements document and work with it later when you open the document.

Keyboard Shortcuts in Photoshop Elements
The shortcuts in Photoshop Elements enable you to work faster and more efficiently. This series of articles will guide you through the most common shortcuts you will use.
General Shortcuts
Activate the command
This allows you to choose the specific command for the shortcut from the menus by pressing the shortcut key combination.
Activate the command
[alt] + [space] + [Enter] Activate the command option
[Alt] + [Space] + [Tab] This is the simplest, and most common, shortcut combination.
NOTE: Photoshop Elements doesn’t recognise Alt+Tab as a shortcut. Instead, it uses Ctrl+Tab.
Activate Photoshop Elements
This is a bit more convenient, as you don’t have to type the full name of Photoshop Elements. To use this shortcut, press [Ctrl] + [Tab].
Or Use [Tab] And [Enter] For One Command
Although this shortcut seems to be a bit of a cheat, it’s actually a great way of switching to a different command. Press [Alt] + [Space] + [Enter] to open the dialogue box.
You can do this with as many as nine commands.
Activate the first command
[Tab] This will switch to the first command. You can then use the next and previous keys to move between commands.
Activate the second command
[Tab] + [↑] This will move to the next command. You can move back to the first command using [Tab] + [↓].
Activate the third command
[Tab] + [→] This will move to the next command. You can move back to the second command using [Tab] + [←].
Activate the fourth command
[Tab] + [↑] + [↓] + [→] + [←] This will move to the next command, then down through the commands.

The present invention relates to a fusing device for fixing toner image on a recording medium in a copying machine, printer or similar image forming apparatus.
As a device of this type, there has so far been known a device as shown in FIG. 3. This fusing device includes a heated fusing roller 101 rotatably installed at a lower portion of a body 100 to form a nip N between itself and a pressure roller 103. The fusing roller 101 is mounted on its circumferential surface with a fixing heater 102 and is heated by the heater 102. The pressure roller 103 is located to be movable to and away from the fusing roller 101 in the axial direction of the fusing roller 101 and is biased to be in contact with the fusing roller 101. As shown in FIG. 4, a guide groove 101a is formed in an outer peripheral surface of the fusing roller 101. A backup roller 102a is located in the guide groove 101a.
The backup roller 102a is urged against the fusing roller 101 to press the latter against the pressure roller 103. Further, a sheet guide 102b is provided in the body 100 to extend across the nip N in the axial direction of the fusing roller 101. The fusing roller 101 and the backup roller 102a are coupled through a coupling 102c. When the fusing roller 101 is heated, the temperature of the fusing roller 101 rises and rises further as the copying operation proceeds, eventually reaching an overheating state where the temperature is too high.
When the temperature of the fusing roller 101 reaches the overheating state, the backup roller 102a comes in contact with the fusing roller 101 to prevent the overheat of the latter. That is, the backup roller 102a and the fusing roller 101 come in contact with each other to generate heat by friction between them. The backup roller 102a and the fusing roller 101 are thus kept in the overheating state, during which the fusing device does not operate as intended.
Japanese Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 11-145774 has been proposed to prevent the overheating of the fusing roller 101. This technique provides a fusing device including a heating means for fusing toner image onto a sheet and a protecting means for preventing fusing failure due to overheating. A Polícia Federal identificou uma “conjunção entre hackers, milicianos, forças especiais e setor criminoso” como responsável pelo fechamento, no dia 2 de outubro, do sistema do candidato a governador do Rio Henrique Suassuna (PT), que caiu após o desembarque das cédulas de votos.
“Os criminosos estudaram durante muito tempo a intenção de invadir a sistema e sabiam que não havia código de segurança”, disse uma fonte da PF.
Quem havia invadido o site da campanha havia conseguido manipular as opções dos candidatos a presidência e vice de cada estado e só assinou o voto em um deles.
A informação é do advogado Cláudio Marinho, diretor do TSE (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral) – que, depois da disputa, coordenou a investigação da polícia federal.
“Eles [criminosos] tentaram saber quem estava por trás. Aí retiraram o código do site e, com isso, desfeitam o sistema”.
Segundo a fiscalização do TSE, o sistema do candidato ganhou 8 milhões de visitantes, 6 milhões de usuários e o lançamento do programa de compra das cédulas.
Em nota, o sistema de candidatos reiterou que a fraude foi descoberta pela própria polícia e doado aos investigadores.
