So here’s a brief overview of the major components of Photoshop.
The Toolbar
The basic toolbar contains commands to create and use layers, styles, text, and all the other tools that you use while editing your images.
Layers
Layers enable you to create and manipulate objects on the same layer and have different appearances in different states.
Effects
Effects provide you with a range of special effects to add either to a layer or to the entire image. You can have a variety of effects applied to multiple layers, such as layers containing the original and effects, or a layer that contains your background and an effect that you applied to the entire image.
Brushes
Brushes are used to create and manipulate the appearance of your image. You can use brushes to create the appearance of texture and change that texture.
Transform
The Transform tool enables you to resize, rotate, and distort the appearance of your image.
Curves
The Curves tool enables you to manipulate the appearance of the image with a range of histogram presets.
Luminance/Hue/Saturation
The Luminance/Hue/Saturation tool enables you to adjust the color of the image. You can use it to change the value, such as the brightness of a photo, or you can use it to change the hue or saturation.
Navigator
The Navigator tool allows you to drag your image around to see different points of interest (for example, the edges of objects).
Mask
The Mask tool can help you isolate areas of your image to make other areas transparent.

Photoshop and Photoshop Elements have unique ways of importing images, and making sure you get the correct size and format of your images.
Adobe Photoshop
The window that opens when you open Photoshop.
You can click and drag around the image on the screen, then when the image is not active, click and drag again, to move it around the canvas.
Clicking and dragging the image on the screen will have the following effects:

Selecting the whole image lets you do the following:
Change the size of the image.
Crop the image.
Pick a specific part of the image by clicking and dragging.
Stroke is a feature of Illustrator that lets you select straight, curved and free-form lines of any kind. It is usually used to correct drawings and edit geometry. The “add to selection” function can be used to extend the selection to the pixels of all the selected items.
Clicking on the image in the layers panel toggles the visibility of the layer on and off. This makes it easy to check where the edit is placed in the file structure.
The Edit menu is a collection of the most used options for a particular task, such as crop, rotate or straighten.
The Paintbrush tool allows you to apply changes to the selected image, using real paint. You can click and drag to move around the canvas to apply the changes, or use the menu to change the brush’s size, opacity and color.
The Eraser tool will remove specific pixels of the image. You can change the Opacity of the eraser to change the size of the pixels that are removed.
Quick Selection tool
The Quick Selection tool allows you to select blocks of pixels as quickly as possible. It works like the magic wand tool, but can only select one type of pixels. This type of selection can be used in several ways, for example:
To select a specific part of an image.
To create a mask.
To select pixels of different colors, on top of each other.
