Excellent

The reason I am writing this review is that I just received a product that I believe is better than the Serial Watcher.
Viewant is a free (better than free) serial terminal for Linux. It is very fast at responding and does not share the memory usage problems I had with Serial Watcher.
It also supports remote connections from remote machines.

My Brother printer malfunctioned and I brought it to the repair centre. They tried to fix it and said it would need replacement. Instead I opted to use this software to print my Windows 10 bi-weekly backups in a fast printer like Brother HL-2050DW. I then needed a conversion of the.PDF files back to a text file. I’ve attached the pdfs and the text files of said pdfs to show you what I did.

Install Instructions

I tested the application on Windows 10 Pro x64, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 & Windows Server 2012 R2 x64, and it worked fine on all of them.

1. Download the serial watcher application from the link below and run it.
2. Right click the file and choose Run as Administrator.
3. Choose the port you want to monitor, TCP/IP or Parallel (Adm 8086).
4. If you want to detect changes to the application it will be the port selected but if you want to detect changes to the port or hardware settings you will need to select Paralel. If you select the latter then you will need to add information or a port # to the AppendLine option and ensure it has the correct termination character.
5. Choose Hardware(Serial & Parallel) Then choose a port #
6. Choose Software select the type of handshake (Hardware or Software)
7. Choose Data width. I use 16 bit which should be pretty fast. If you want higher quality, go with 24 bit.
8. Choose Stop Bits. I use 1 Stop and 1.5 Stop for even higher speed.
9. Choose Parity. Any will do.
10. Choose Bit Rate. My printer runs at 3Mbps. I usually use BPS but it can be Set and Set and adjusted later.
11. Check enable DTR. I usually leave it.
12. Check enable RTS. I usually leave it.
13. With all your settings made click ok.
14. It should now be detecting the hardware on the selected port. If it doesn’t work try other ports.
15. If it is working you should see a red circle and a green circle. The green circle will constantly be displaying itself. This means the tool can detect a hardware error or a changing of hardware.
