Heli-Headspeed was developed as a Java-based tachometer app that acoustically measures the rotations per minute (RPM) of your RC model helicopter blades.
For this purpose the blade sound is recorded and its frequency spectrum analyzed. It works with all electric and nitro model helicopters with two blades.
The process is simple:
· select the expected RPM range
· click the measure button
The heli must be close enough to allow for clean recording of the blade sound, 2-3m distance to the heli should work well.

Installation
· download the app from App store
· Start the program
· activate the microphone according to the type of the heli
· activate the heli by pressing the “measure” button
· select the item where the rotations per minutes is expected
· click the “measure” button
· select the “save” button to save the files to the default location
· wait until the files have been saved
· start the program again
Heli-Headspeed Configuration
· select “2nd Sound Card” for recording, if there is not a mic pre-amp, the heli’s mic should be connected directly to the program
· change “Channels” for the records with quad rotation of the helicopter
· check the “10 kHz-16 kHz” to record in a range between 10 kHz and 16 kHz
· select “Normal/Good” for the measurements or use the “Average” method
· select the audio output of the heli, there are at least 3 output options
· select the audio output of the program
· check “USB/SD card” if you want to record via USB or SD card
· specify the folder and name for the saved files (defaults to 30 days)

To use the app you need to run the app in the background, select the expected RPM range, and click the measure button.
As soon as the app measures the rotor speed, the result is shown in the app.
You can use the app to measure the rpm of all model helicopters or, by rotating the device, you can select one of the model helicopters of interest.
