OVERALL ENJOYMENT (1/5)
Playing the game in Easy mode, I explored the world until level 16, where I found the Emerald Dragon River. As such, in easy mode, I felt that I was likely able to enjoy it for a while if it weren’t for the easy mode. In addition, the character design in easy mode is relatively poor, and the in-game text is generally unintelligible, meaning that there were no components of the game that I thought were highly interesting.
While I liked the overarching story, I felt that the scenes were somewhat lacking in appeal. In particular, the ending was merely a rehash of the opening story, and the heroine’s crying at the beginning and boss’s shouting at the end, while rather interesting and emotional, made me feel like a robot. The only notable part of the story was the addition of the online element. The playable area of the world was set up fairly nicely; however, once I entered the world, the online element started, and it’s only at this point that I decided to play on the high difficulty setting. Although I feel that the combat in easy mode was rather boring, the playable area was quite large, allowing me to easily explore. There were also a large number of battles, and each time you fail a battle, your base health is reduced. This makes it difficult to lose oneself in the battles and lose yourself in the story.
OVERALL ENJOYMENT (2/5)
The story and online element, while interesting in their own right, were rather dull and uninteresting in the overall storyline. Compared to the other fantasy RPGs that I have played, the world exploration and combat in this game, while involving, were somewhat average.

I do not consider myself to be a great fan of the GTA series; I find it to be rather derivative of and oppressive imitations to violent and comedic sensational games with an absurd level of freedom offered to players. If I’m feeling really enthusiastic however, I find myself creeping onto the All Stars version of Grand Theft Auto 2, pleasantly dismayed to find developer Rockstar Games reformulating the game’s core mechanics, stripping the game of its already comically-jarring difficulty and leaving only its colours of blood and darkness behind. As a result, the game prerequisites no previous knowledge, and offers a far more welcoming avenue through the world. Many critics came away saying it was “the better-looking GTA” and the “Tomb Raider” of games… but as soon as you fire off your Machetes at daily-deal salesman Link, the game, instead of coming alive, becomes tiresome and uneventful. While the game’s watchable enough, the more enthusiastic players may find it boring, repeating the same over and over, completing 72 missions on the same city, only to roam to and collect “the best cars ever” on the same island. One of the remaining aspects of the game, however, is its longevity, and another benefit of the much-styled All Stars is its limitless timer, which allows players anywhere in the world to just sit and play, endlessly cycling through repetitive missions with no real variance in sight, simply to unlock any and all of the game’s missions. And this is where you learn to enjoy it, enjoying the sensation of mowing through pedestrians with a well-chosen minivan and tranquil American landscapes blanketing the horizon. Following my initial interest in the game, I found I was barely interested in the $60 price-tag and was more compelled by its ability to relieve me of my mental load, a load that I had to carry every time I’d play the game.
