Flash, AS3- What are the advantages to setting the defaultScene to 0?
I am planning to make a simple game that involves an obstacle avoidance sequence. I want to create a Flash game framework of sorts, and am thinking about the logic behind the Flash development. If I were to have a Flash movie, as a start, and allow the user to create the game levels, and save them, what advantages do I gain by having Flash hard-code the levels at the defaultScene = 0;, and then just move the logic for player movement/collision detection into the Flash movie?

Here are some things you’ll lose:
Flash IDE support – there’s no easy way to compile and run in the IDE. Instead you’ll have to build all of your code by hand, and it’s not actually a big deal when you consider the things you’ll gain.
Ease of development – You’ll have to write the code for your game in a much different way than a typical Flash project. For example, you’ll have to use ActionScript/AS3 for all logic and graphics, and if you want to get fancy you’ll need to use things like the ExtendScript API’s to call native programs such as Excel, etc. If you need to use native file IO or other third party programs you’ll have to build them separately as well. That might not be a big deal but it’s something you’d have to consider.
You’ll have to write your level editor from scratch – Since your game logic will not be in a proper class hierarchy and since you want to write things like actionscript or variables at the top level, you’ll have to manage your variables differently and access them all from the top level. This will probably take a lot more time than writing it all using classes.
If you want to do logic for game content in Flash you’ll have to have a hard time achieving that.
That’s the advantages. I think it would be a good thing to use for a game though.
